Join us to celebrate Social Saturday! We are delighted to be celebrating Social Saturday today! Social enterprises are making a difference in your community and around the world, set up to trade for a social purpose and using business to create a more equal society.
Having launched as a social enterprise at the end of 2016 the Geared for Giving Campaign has been working over the last 2 years to make giving through pay to charity a social norm and something that is expected of all the very best employers.
Payroll Giving allows employees to donate to good causes through their pay and is the most tax efficient way to donate to charity. It’s a very simple employee benefit for businesses to introduce and operate, plus it forms a key strand of any CSR or community plan.
We are funded by a number of Founding Partners, which include ASOS, BT, Beaverbrooks, Cancer Research UK, Experian, Linklaters LLP and The Entertainer. All these employers are leading examples of the benefits Payroll Giving can bring to both employees and the charities they support.
Awareness of Payroll Giving, however, remains low with only 23% of larger employees (those with 250+ employees in the UK) currently operating a scheme. We hope by 2021 we will have encouraged these 5,000 plus employers to introduce the scheme to benefit their employees and the wider charitable sector.
For charities, the donations provided through Payroll Giving are a lifeline of regular funding, in a difficult fundraising climate. These donations allow charities to plan ahead and respond to emergencies.
So far almost 500 employers have introduced Payroll Giving in the past two years and giving from pay has increased by almost £3.5m in the past 12 months. We still have a great deal of work to do, but we are getting there!
Social Saturday is about championing businesses like us and showcasing the impact and strength of the UK’s social enterprise movement. If you don’t already offer Payroll Giving then why not contact us at email@example.com to find out more and join hundreds of like-minded employers who are allowing their employees to support a charity they care about in the most tax effective way.
